JOHN F. BARTLETT

Feb. 24, 1938-Nov. 25, 2016

John Franklin Bartlett, 78, LaGrange, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2016.

John was born Feb. 24, 1938, in Wayne County in the front bedroom of the family home to George Atlas Bartlett and Ina Carter Bartlett.

John’s 41-year career in the auto industry began with Cobb Motor Co. in 1958. He later retired from Dan Wise Chevrolet in 1999, where he worked as parts manager.

Following his retirement from Dan Wise, John farmed side by side with his beloved wife, Faye. John loved the farming life and the life of the farmer. He took great pride in being a good steward of the land. John raised a variety of grain crops, but was most passionate about raising cotton.

Driven, straightforward and described by others as somewhat peculiar, John was very attentive to detail, and took great pride in being honest with all he came in contact with.

Compassionate and caring, John lived a life of dedication to his family. He possessed a way of making others smile with his dry wit.

One who always enjoyed working with his hands, John enjoyed tinkering as a farm equipment designer/mechanic. He took great pride in restoring older farm equipment to a pristine working condition.

A service to celebrate and honor John’s life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home of La Grange. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

John is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Faye Thornton Bartlett; two children, Tanya Bartlett Grady and husband, Lester, and George Franklin Bartlett and wife, Anne Marie; two grandchildren, Lester Ray Grady III and Holly Joy Capps; one great-grandchild, Jahcelyn Grady; two brothers, Kenneth Bartlett and Andrew Bartlett; and his best friend, Ben Rollins and wife, Betty.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by five siblings, Alfred Bartlett, Ruth Pate, Ellen Conway, David Bartlett and Arthur Bartlett.

John’s family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times, will be at the Bartlett home.
