ALICE DARDEN LEE

Dec. 31, 1927–Nov. 24, 2016

Alice Darden Lee, 88, Goldsboro, won her battle with cancer, leaving behind her mortal body in exchange for eternal life with her Heavenly Father.

Alice was born in Sampson County, one of five children, to the late Joseph Earl Darden and Ellen Hobbs Darden.

After the death of her mother, Mr. Darden married Sallie Westbrook Darden, and three sons were added to the family.

The family was engaged in farming in Sampson County, where all the family members participated.

The family members were active members of Newton Grove United Methodist Church.

After the death of her husband, Craven Earl Lee Jr., Alice and her daughters moved to Goldsboro.

Early on, Alice worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital, and later went to work with Griffin Oil Co.

Following her retirement, Alice continued to work part-time with the oil company.

Alice was a longtime member of Jefferson United Methodist Church in Goldsboro. She was devoted to her church, served as Sunday school superintendent, was a member of the Friendship Bible class, circle leader, choir member and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

Alice’s primary goals in life were serving her Lord and the happiness of her family.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister.

Alice always enjoyed visiting with her church family and friends.

She found great pleasure in cooking, crocheting, crafts and sewing for her family and friends. She was a compassionate and sharing woman.

The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Jefferson United Methodist Church, followed by a service celebrating Alice’s life at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Doug Johnson and the Rev. Linda Grider officiating. Interment will conclude the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Newton Grove.

At other times, the family will receive family and friends at the home of Dennis and Sue Jones, 872 N.C. 581 North, Goldsboro.
