Joyce Pender Taylor, 82, went to be with her Lord Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Joyce was born in Wayne County April 18, 1934, to the late Leslie E. Pender and Lola Peele Hollowell Pender. She was married to the late George Dexter Taylor.

For many years, Joyce enjoyed her work as a hairdresser at Kirkwood Retirement Village.

She was a longtime member of Oakland Community Church. Joyce was devoted to her church, sang in the choir and was involved in many activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

A service to celebrate Joyce's life will be held Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Oakland Community Church. Entombment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the mausoleum at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Jerry L. Dawson and wife, Wanda, of Pikeville, Stan Dawson of Rosewood, and Tim Taylor and wife, Tracey, of Selma; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Ellen P. Ham of Rosewood and Betty Gray P. Allen of Smithfield, as well as her nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Bernese P. Hill.
