CAROLYN V. O'TUEL HOOD

Carolyn Vic O'Tuel Hood, known as Vickie by those who knew and loved her, passed away Oct. 28, 2016, in her home in Warsaw, N.C.

Vickie was born to Prentis Harold O'Tuel Sr. and Louise Jones O'Tuel Aug. 8, 1943, in Goldsboro, N.C.

She was a graduate of Goldsboro High School and East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education.

She married William Graham Hood III Dec. 12, 1966, and they had two children, Angie and Chris.

In 1977, she and Graham opened the Western Auto Store in Warsaw, where their business thrived for 24 years.

In 2001 the store was sold due to Graham's diagnosis of cancer, and Vickie dedicated the next 13 years to caring for and creating memories with her husband until his death in 2013.

Vickie was a member of Warsaw Baptist Church, where she served in WMU, food distribution and in Children in Action in recent years.

She served as president of the local VFW chapter, was active in voter registration drives and was trained and served as a Guardian ad Litem in the community.

Her love of the Lord and her love of others was evident in all she did.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Graham Hood III; her brother, Samuel James O'Tuel; and son-in-law, Ellis Brinson Vestal Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela Hood Vestal; her son, Christopher Graham Hood, his wife, Lisa Lanier Hood; her stepdaughter, Suzanne Sanford Beam, her husband, Jeff Beam; her eight grandchildren, Emily, Eli, Elizabeth, Britton, Ada Lise, Nicole, Jennifer and Jonathan; one great-grand child, Ayden; her brother, Prentis Harold O'Tuel, wife, Carolyn Ford O'Tuel; sister-in-law, Mary Mozingo O'Tuel; and sister-in-law Gayle Hood Davis, husband, Jeff Davis.

Services will be held Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m. at Warsaw Baptist Church in Warsaw, N.C., with graveside service following at Devotional Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to a charity of the person's choice.
