SGT. JEREMY A. BATSON

SGT. JEREMY A. BATSON

July 12, 1984-Oct. 23, 2016

Jeremy Allyn Batson was welcomed into this world July 12, 1984 at Greenville Memorial Hospital of Greenville, S.C., to Allyn Scott Batson and Vida Schwarze Batson Sutton.

As new and excited parents, we gathered our little bundle of joy, and took him home to start our new "little family."

In early 2008, Jeremy made the choice to join the United States Army. He served two combat tours of his four-year career, and was honorably discharged in October 2012.

Oct. 23, 2016, Jeremy passed away while a patient at Vidant Medical Center, and was able to give the gift of life to many through organ donation.

Jeremy is survived by his fianceé, Rachel Millard, and daughter, Charlotte ("Charlie-Bug" as Jeremy called her); his mother, Vida Batson Sutton and husband, Rick; his father, Allyn Scott Batson and wife, Lori; brothers, United States Army Staff Sgt. William Batson and wife, Haylee, and United States Marine Corps Cpl. Paul Batson and wife, Julie; stepsisters, Sara Clark (husband, Jared), Brittany Campbell (husband, Kris) and Tori Strong (husband, Sam); stepbrother, Daniel Sutton; nieces, Elizah Batson and Camden Sutton; his nephews, Zachary DeMello, Tristan Batson and Avery Campbell, all of whom Uncle Jeremy loved to pieces; cousins, Anna Anderson, Emily Anderson, Officer Sarah Anderson, Hallie Batson Smith and United States Army Private First Class Jordan Batson; grandparents; aunts; uncles; second cousins; and many Army brothers and friends who loved him dearly.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating.

The family will be receiving friends immediately following the service.

A graveside service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.greenberetfoundation.org or Skywood Recovery, 10499 N. 48th St., Augusta, Mich., 49012, in memory of Jeremy Batson.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory of Goldsboro is serving the family, and online condolences may be sent through www.shumate-faulk.com.
