Lib, as she is known to many, or Betty Ruth, as known to others, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and her caregiver.

She was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, to the late William Carroll Denson and Maxine Smith Denson.

A memorial service will be held Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church of Goldsboro, N.C.

Family visitation to be after the service in the church fellowship hall.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Gainey Carrere and her husband, Tim, of Goldsboro; grandson, Fitch Carrere and his wife, Laura, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; stepbrothers, Leon Wallace and his wife, Nancy, of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Norrel Wallace and his wife, Nancy, of Carterville, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Judy Cates, Joyce Gainey and Betty Gainey; brother-in-law, Ashley Gainey and his wife, Melisia; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother and father, Lib was preceded in death by her stepmother, Opal Wallace Denson; son, William Calvin Gainey; husband, Walter Robert Gainey; brothers-in-law, James and Dale Gainey; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Ryden.

She leaves to celebrate her life family and friends, especially her Wednesday afternoon Bible study group of Minnie Overman Peggy Massengill, Frances Taylor and Emma Jean Scott, and her loving and dedicated caregiver, Julia Maxwell.
