Adine Newsome Kearney, 91, Goldsboro, went to be with her Lord Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.

Adine was born in Wayne County Nov. 16, 1924, to the late Jack Randall Newsome and Emma Eliza Walters Newsome.

She was one of nine children, who loved one another dearly.

Adine was a member of The Lord's Table Church, where she enjoyed attending 55-plus and the social events with her church family.

She was a 1942 graduate of New Hope School, where she played sports and excelled in basketball.

Adine worked in the restaurant business her adult life starting with Central Lunch in the late 1940s. A job she loved. Her patrons were like family to her. Adine was known for being an excellent cook, hard worker and very strong willed.

She enjoyed music, shopping, traveling and beautiful things.

Adine was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, who was affectionately known as "Nana." She always put her family first before her own needs. Adine will be missed.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service celebrating Adine's life at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary, with pastor Don Lewis officiating. Entombment will conclude the service in the mausoleum at Wayne Memorial Park.

Adine is survived by three children, Steve Kearney and wife, Mary, Donna Beard and husband, Raymond, and Phil Kearney all of Goldsboro; seven grandchildren, Gina Robinson and husband, Jimmy, of Winterville, April Wilt and husband, Kevin, Jason Kearney and fianceé, Beth Neagley, Amy Brousand of Wilmington, Emily Lanier and husband, Rodney, of Dunn, Hayley Ginn and husband, Tony, and Blake Kearney and fianceé, Skyler Parks, all of Goldsboro; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by one special sister, Janice Swindler of Chillicothe, Ohio; sister-in-law, Alma Newsome; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Woodrow Newsome, Noah Newsome and D.N. Newsome, and sisters, Nora Elizabeth "Sister" Thackeray, Gertrude Hudson, Bernice Salisbury and Eliza Hollingsworth.

She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Stephen J. "Pete" Kearney, and her beloved cat, Lucky.

Adine's family would like to acknowledge the staff of Community Home and Hospice Care, particularly Patricia Pate and Tammy Gurley, for their loving care of our mother.

The family would also like to express its appreciation to her family, especially her daughter-in-law, Mary Kearney, who had a profound impact on the quality of Adine's life in recent years.

Special thanks also go to Adine's primary care physician, Dr. Van Adams, who demonstrated what constitutes excellent medical care, which allowed her to stay at home.

She was a fighter until the end.
