DOROTHY SAVAGE HACKMAN

Dorothy Savage Hackman, a longtime resident of Goldsboro, died Sept. 26, just a few months shy of her 96th birthday.

Born Nov. 3, 1920, Dorothy Iona was the first of nine children from the union of Herbert Marshall and Bertha Mae Fulghum Savage.

She is survived by two siblings, sister, Mamie Ruth Wilson of Goldsboro, and brother, John Dorsey Savage and his wife, Sarah Ewell, of Williamsburg, Va., as well as sister-in-law, Margie Whaley Savage of Goldsboro.

Dorothy is survived by her former daughter-in-law, Sandi McCarthy, and her grandsons and their families, Charles Scott McCarthy, his wife, Rachel, and their children, Brooke and Dylan, of Upper St. Clair, Pa., and Keith Allen McCarthy, his wife, Stefania, and their daughter, Olivia, of Dormont, Pa.

Also, she is survived by her stepdaughter, Cheryl Hackman Pritchard, and stepgrandson, Billy Pritchard and his wife, Crystal, and their son, William Rhys Pritchard, all from Lafayette, La.

In addition to those above, Dorothy will be greatly missed by a host of nieces and nephews who loved her.

Besides her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Clarke Hackman; her son, Charles Francis McCarthy Jr.; and six other siblings, Bertha Mae Bryant, Elsie Rae Davis, Amelia Frances (Mickey) Lingle, Alice Jacques Tyndall and George Marshall Savage all of Goldsboro and Herbert Jackson Savage of Panama City, Fla.

A graveside service will be held at Willow Dale Cemetery Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fred Clarke, minister of First Christian Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to First Christian Church, 1609 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
