Bruce Kellum Basden, 75, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Samuel L. and Bettie Price Basden.

Bruce was a member of Dudley Christian Church, where he served as an elder, and was a retired B-52 bomber pilot with the United States Air Force.

He was a member of Wayne Shrine Club and Mount Olive Masonic Lodge No. 208.

A service to celebrate Bruce's life will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Dudley Christian Church, with the Rev. Blane Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Janice Hill Basden; two sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel Glenn and Ashle Barnes Basden of Mint Hill, N.C., and Gregory Bruce and Susan Carroll Basden of Denver, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Brett Kellum Basden, Griffin Rae Basden and Sydney Carroll Basden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Cures for the Colors, c/o SMOC, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or Dudley Christian Church, 212 O'Berry Road, Dudley, N.C., 28333.

Family members will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
