TUERO TRIPP

April 5, 1924-Sept. 16, 2016

Gloria was born April 5, 1924, in Los Angeles to Vicente and Francine Tuero.

Orphaned at the age of 6, she was raised by her grandmother, Isabel Montague, whom she called "Mama."

Gloria, 92, passed away Sept. 16, 2016, at Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, N.C.

During World War II, Gloria supported her country working at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, Calif.

She met and married a United States Marine, William Rodman "Buck" Tripp from Kinston, N.C.

While Buck was deployed, the first of their 12 children was born.

After the war, they moved to Kinston, where Gloria became a homemaker and wife of a sharecropper. They would later move to the Hugo area.

In 1972, Gloria said "I found the Lord; prior to that, I was full of religion."

Widowed at the age of 54, Gloria became the rock of her family.

She loved to write and paint, and her laughter brightened everyone's day. She led by example, and would say "A dusty Bible means dusty people" and "Religion will kill you."

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Buck Tripp, and son, Anthony Martin Tripp.

She leaves behind 11 children, sons, James (Maria), Roger (Melanie), Michael (BeBe), Timothy (Judy) and Sean Tripp (Debbie), and daughters, primary caregivers, Debra Tyndall (Robert) and Donna Lee (Alan) and Lynda Tripp, Teresa Canipe (Herman), Mary Jordan and Barbara Elliott (Paul); 16 grandchildren, Jayme Tripp, Jasmine Johnson, Kimberlea Vick, Brian, Joshua and Seth Tripp, Bobbie Wilcox, Corey Ahlstrom, Kasey Johnson, Catherine West, William Pike, Michelle Hilliard, Chris Canipe, Ben and Steven Jordan and Amanda Humphries; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A huge void is left in the hearts of Gloria's family, the congregation at Spring Garden Baptist Church and several of her dearest friends. That void is comforted with the knowledge that she is in the loving arms of her Savior and suffers no more here on earth.

The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony Hall, Vidant Medical and Inpatient Hospice for the kindness they showed mother during her time of need.

Flowers are welcome or donations may be sent to Spring Garden Baptist Church 650 Spring Garden Road, New Bern, N.C., 28562
