Mewborn, 97, Snow Hill, died Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2016, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

A native of Greene County, he was born Oct. 8, 1918, the son of Asa Daniel and Temesia Mewborn.

A retired farmer, Mr. Mewborn loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Devoted to his family, he was a fixture of support at the ballgames of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which he loved attending.

Mr. Mewborn was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Hinnant Mewborn; son-in-law, Dred Murphy; and brothers, Alvis Mewborn and Drew Mewborn.

His surviving family includes his children, Martha Mewborn Murphy of Stantonsburg, Wilson Mewborn and wife, Gail, of Goldsboro and Roger Mewborn and wife, Debbie, of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Sandy Tyndall and husband, Barry, of Wendell, Audie Murphy and wife, Tina, of Stantonsburg, Amy Mewborn of Goldsboro, Jamie Bynum and husband, Adam, of Wendell and Becky Sumrell and fiance´, John Warlick of Fountain; and great-grandchildren, Lindsey Liles and husband, Jonathan, Murphy Tyndall, Loni Tyndall, Hunter Murphy, Macy Murphy, Ryan Owens, Alex Owens, Jacob Bynum, Jesse Sumrell, Aaron Sumrell, and Bella Warlick.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with Dr. Mallie Hinnant officiating. Committal services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Mewborn Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service and other times at the Mewborn home, 1485 Mewborn Church Road, Snow Hill.

The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center the care and kindness shown to Mr. Mewborn.
