Joseph Ollin "Joe" Foss, 75, resident of Suttontown Road near Faison, passed away early Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17, at his home.

Visitation for the Foss family will be Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive, and at other times, the family will be at the residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Foss will be Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. at Faison Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Andy Beard and the Rev. Jon Cooke, followed by burial in Faison Cemetery with military honors.

Joe was a military man, having spent 261/2 years in the United States Air Force.

After his military retirement, he pursued another lifelong interest, operating a lawnmower and small engine repair shop at his home.

He also was employed with Brewer's Hardware, where he was mechanic.

Joe was very involved in the fellowship at his church, Faison Baptist, and had served as church treasurer, financial secretary, secretary and Sunday school teacher, was involved in the Brotherhood of the Church, was church deacon and had been chairman of the diaconate board.

He was also involved in his community, having been in Faison Lions Club in which he served as president and secretary/treasurer, and was a member for more then 25 years.

Also for a period of 25 years or more, he was a member of Giddensville Ruritan Club, and had served as secretary and president there as well.

Joe was also known for his talents in cooking good ole North Carolina barbecue with an accompanying sauce.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jeffery E. "Jake" and Lessie Smith Foss, and a sister, Peggy McFarland, Joe is survived by his wife, Mollie Lawlis Foss of the home; a son, Stuart Foss of Rapid City, S.D.; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and the Rev. Jon Cooke of Yankton, S.D.; two brothers, Jordan Foss of New Bern and Raven Foss of Pink Hill; two sisters, Joan Price of Kenansville and Linda MIllard of Faison; six grandchildren, Chaz Foss, Aaron Foss, Lindsey Swanstrom, Caleb Cook, Courtney Cooke and Ryan Powell; six great-grandchildren, Mollie Swanstrom, Margo Swanstrom, Darius Powell, Marcus Powell, Gavin Powell and Adrienne Powell; and several nieces and nephews.
