ELEANOR BRYAN FIELDS

Died Sept. 8, 2016

Eleanor Bryan Fields, 92, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, at SECU Kitty Askins Hospice in Goldsboro.

As a young woman, she was a member of the Bryan Sisters, who sang on WSM radio in Nashville, Tenn.

She met and later married Grand Ole Opry star Lew Childre.

Years later, after his death, she married Robert Elkannah "Cannie" Fields of Goldsboro. He was the love of her life and a wonderful father to her children.

Miss Ellie, as she was called, loved the ocean, and feeding the seagulls was one of her favorite things to do.

She always remarked that the ocean made her feel like a free spirit. Her wish was that when she died, she wanted to go back to the ocean, the sandy beaches and the glorious sunrises.

Her favorite quote by JCN was "Let your dreams soar with the gulls as your worries vanish with the tide -- go back to the sea."

A private celebration of her life will be held on her favorite North Carolina beach.

She is survived by her daughter, JoAnne Fields Daniels and her husband, Ben; her son, Lew Childre and wife, Sara; and stepson, Robert E. Fields III.

She is also survived by her niece whom she adored, Dee Dee Buff and husband, Porter.

In addition to her parents, Martin and Mamie Bryan, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cannie Field, and her closer-than-close sister, Kathryn Bryan Stephens.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Genesis in Mount Olive, where she lived for many years, and her "angel" caretakers at Kitty Askins.
