Johnnie Thomas J.T. Bedford, 80, Kenly, passed away Saturday afternoon at Wayne UNC Health Care surrounded by his loving family.
J.T. was born in Johnston County on Jan. 27, 1936, to the late Johnnie Thomas and Lomie Woodard Bedford.
He truly loved being outdoors, whether it was working in his garden or riding the golf cart around to pick up cans, it brought him happiness.
J.T. also had a love for dirt-track racing and enjoyed watching and being at the track with friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at Kenly Funeral Service, followed by a graveside service of remembrance at 11 a.m. at the White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Andy Stovall officiating.
J.T. is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara "Bobbie" Tucker Bedford; sons, Henry Bedford of Kenly and Kenneth Bedford of Pikeville; daughter, Pam Bedford of Pikeville; sisters, Bessie Smith of Pikeville, Lucille Balance of Fremont, Shirley Johnson of Kenly and Brenda Merritt of Goldsboro; brothers, James Bedford of Goldsboro and Gerald Bedford of Pikeville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Dean Bedford; granddaughter, Barbie Bedford; and sister, Ruby Waddell.
