John Milton Mills, 89, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016, at the VA Medical Center in Durham.
John was born in Wake County Jan. 3, 1927, to the late John Maple Mills and Blanche Creel Mills.
He was a graduate of Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh.
John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
He later attended Emmaus Bible College and Victoria College of Toronto University in Toronto, Canada.
Since the 1950s, John had served as a teacher of God's word. John was attending Goldsboro Gospel Chapel.
A service celebrating John's life will be held by the graveside at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Ave., Raleigh, N.C.
Following the graveside service, there will be a time of fellowship at Faith Bible Fellowship, 1905 Garner Glen Road, Raleigh, N.C.
John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margery Beattie Stewart Mills, and nephews, Daniel Stewart and Lloyd B. Pope.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Gideons International, P.O. Box 10093, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
