MIRIAM OATES GRIMES

Miriam Oates Grimes, 86, passed away quietly at her home early Friday morning, July 8.

She was the widow of Edward "Jock" Grimes, daughter of the late John Martin Oates Sr. and Blanche Sutton Oates and sister of the late Rudolph Oates, George E. Oates, Ralph Oates, M. Ronald Oates, John M. Oates Jr., J.W. "Bunk" Oates, Serena Oates and Jean O. Westbrook.

She was a farmer's wife and homemaker, and had been employed in the deli-bakery at Mount Olive Piggly Wiggly for a number of years.

She was a member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Grimes is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth G. Burroughs and Phil Burroughs and Mary Martin G. Holloman and Danny Holloman all of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, John Matthew Holloman and Martin Grimes Holloman; two stepgrandchildren, Danielle McEarchen and Nicholas Holloman; three great-grandchildren, Camden Holloman, Cole Wank and Easton McEarchen; a sister, Hilda O. Jones; a brother, Hugh F. Oates Sr. both of Mount Olive; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 10, at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken White and the Rev. Glenn McCullen officiating, followed by burial at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour before the service and at other times, at the home of Mrs. Grimes.
