JAMES LOUIS MAXWELL JR.

James Louis Maxwell Jr., died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

He was born in Wayne County on Jan. 9, 1927, to the late James Louis Maxwell and Ruth Herring Maxwell.

Louis graduated from Goldsboro High School and attended Davidson College. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and, after completing his service, graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and an Eagle Scout.

Louis was chairman of the board of Goldsboro Milling Company, a family-owned business involved in many ventures including swine, real estate, poultry and Butterball, LLC. He made many contributions to the betterment of his communities, state and country through his dedicated involvement in many organizations and passionate service on numerous boards.

There will be a private graveside service at the Maxwell Family Cemetery.

He is survived by four children and their children and grandchildren, daughter, Mary Ann Maxwell; daughter, Charlotte Maxwell Weaver and husband, Harroll Hudson Weaver, and their children, Maxwell Jeffreys Weaver and wife, Leigh Anna Weaver, and their son, Maxwell Jeffreys Weaver Jr., James Harroll Weaver, David Hudson Weaver and wife, Tracey Harrell Weaver, and their children, David Hudson Weaver Jr. and Leslie Forbes Weaver, and Kathryn Weaver Sumrell and husband, Stephen Cale Sumrell, and their children, Weaver Davenport Sumrell and Isabelle Kathryn Sumrell; daughter, Elizabeth Maxwell Yarboro and husband, Thomas Richard Yarboro, and their children, Thomas Richard Yarboro Jr., Virginia Marshall Yarboro, Eleanor Maxwell Yarboro, and Charlotte Ruth Yarboro; son, James Louis Maxwell III and wife, Gina Comer Maxwell and their children, Lily Page Maxwell and James Louis Maxwell IV.

In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Jeffreys Maxwell, and his sister, Effie Ruth Maxwell Pike.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at his home, 711 Lake Shore Drive, Goldsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to honor Mr. Maxwell be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E.
