GEORGE DANIELS STENHOUSE

The Right Rev. George Daniels Stenhouse, 93, Louisville, Ky., and Goldsboro, N.C., died Saturday, June 25, at the University of Louisville Hospital after a sudden stroke.

He was born in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, to the late Cmdr. Henry M. Stenhouse, MD, (United States Navy) and Mary Cleaves Daniels Stenhouse, and grew up in Goldsboro, N.C.

In World War II, he served as a combat infantryman in the United States 1st Army's campaigns from Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded.

He attended Virginia Military Institute, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and General Theological Seminary.

He was an Episcopal priest and a bishop in the Anglican church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; son, George Daniels Stenhouse Jr.; his parents; and four siblings.

He is survived by his son, John Stenhouse; daughter, Sylvia Church; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and "granddog," Sporticus (Sport).

A graveside burial service will be held at Willowdale Cemetery in Goldsboro Saturday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m.
