Esther P. Hobby, 99, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Somerset Court Assisted Living in Goldsboro.

She was born in Wayne County April 9, 1917, to the late Duran Silas Hare and Clyde West Hare.

She is survived by her two sons, Ed Hare and wife, Gloria, of Fuquay-Varina and Bobby Hare and wife, Shirley, of Mechanicsville, Va.; daughter, Betty H. Dietz of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Sherry Parnell and husband, Kenneth, Keith Hare, Angie Turnage and husband, Dean, Natalie Francis and husband, Mike, Leslie Sams and husband, Roger, and Todd Hare and wife, Lisa; nine great-grandchildren, Lindsey Parnell (Ty Stocks), Daniel Parnell, Dena T. Blizzard (Luke), Kasey Turnage, Dalton Hare, Ally Turnage, Cole Sams, Alex Hare and Addilyn Francis; and was anticipating the birth of her first great-great-grandchild.

She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Pauline Hare of Wilson; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Becky and Andy Wilson and family of Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol C. Stroud; brothers, Edward, Fred, Albert, Willard and Lloyd Hare; and sisters, Cleo Werner and Katherine Oetken.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 24, 2016, at Seymour Funeral Home from noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Betty Dietz, 671 Ebenezer Church Road, Goldsboro.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Community Home and Hospice Care for the love and care it provided for Esther during her final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Somerset Court, who provided wonderful care for Esther over these past few months.
