MAVIS BAKER TURNAGE

July 23, 1925-June 5, 2016

Mrs. Mavis Baker Turnage, 90, Snow Hill, died Sunday, June 5, 2016, at her home.

A native of Wayne County, she was born July 23, 1925, the daughter of Joe and Loty Parker Baker.

Mrs. Turnage was an avid homemaker, and meticulously maintained her yard and home. She was an outstanding cook, and relished each spring when she would can and freeze vegetables.

Mrs. Turnage was a member of Davis Grove Free Will Baptist Church, and had retired from Caswell Center.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turnage was preceded in death by her husband, John Clarence Turnage, who died in 1963, and a great-granddaughter, Savannah Hart.

Her surviving family includes her children, Frances Ann Turnage Bunn and husband, Ray, Wanda Sue Turnage Bordeaux and husband, Billy, and Ralph Wayne Turnage and wife, Irene, all of Snow Hill; a brother, Joe "Tony" Baker of Pikeville; grandchildren, Melissa Hart, Michael Bunn and Wayne Turnage; six great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Linda Price of Ayden.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Steven Gay officiating. Committal services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Snow Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening following the service and other times at their respective homes.
