Joyce Marlene Garner Browe, 77, longtime resident of the Mount Olive area, passed away quietly early Saturday morning, June 4, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born in Guilford County, she was raised up in Denton, N.C.

She was employed in various capacities, but the career that delighted her the most was with the North Carolina Forestry Service, where she was a tower operator and also dressed to play the part of Smokey the Bear.

Mrs. Browe is survived by her six children, Danny Fritz and wife, Rhoda, of Mount Olive, Rick Fritz and fianceé, Karla Laseter, of Mount Olive, Debby Cansler of Mount Olive, Bill Fritz of Mount Olive, Ronda Thompson and husband, Michael, of Mount Olive and Belinda Parent and husband, Jose, of Mount Olive; a sister, Diane Gallimore and husband, Richard, of Denton; grandchildren, Angel Agee, April Wade, Rodney Browe, Richard Cox, Jessica Fritz, Jonathan Taylor, Michael Grady Jr., Eddie Howell, Justin Howell, Brittany Powell and James Parent; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Browe; an infant daughter, Marlene Renee Browe; a granddaughter, Jennifer Renee Taylor; a son-in-law, Patrick Cansler; her parents, Fairley Lee Garner and Alice Taylor Garner; a sister, Barbara Garner; and three brothers, Robert Garner, James Garner and Donny Garner.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 7, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home. Officiating will be Bishop Douglas Wiggins and pastor Jeffrey Dail. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 6, and at other times, at the home at 155 Briarbed Lane, Mount Olive.
