EDSEL G. HOOKS

Edsel Glenn Hooks, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday at Somerset Court.
He was the son of the late Roy Paul and Myde W. Hooks, and was the husband of the late Edna Howell Hooks.
He was an owner and barber at Adamsville Barber Shop and then at Sunrise Barber shop for more than 40 years, a pastor and evangelist for many nursing homes, as well as churches, and a veteran of the United States Army.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, and a funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Timothy Creel officiating. Committal services will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Hooks is survived by his siblings, Aaron Hooks and wife, Betty, of Goldsboro, Layune Taylor and husband, Ray, of Goldsboro and Virgie Bell of Las Vegas, Nev., and several nieces and nephews.
Brothers, Selby and William Hooks, and sister, Carolyn Howell, preceded Mr. Edsel in death.
The family wishes to thank Karen Earnest and staff of Community Hospice and the caretakers of Somerset Court for their excellent care during Mr. Edsel's time with them.
