MARVIN TAYLOR

May 9, 1930-April 24, 2016

Marvin Taylor, lifelong resident of the Pleasant Grove community of Mount Olive, died Sunday at home. He was 85.

He had served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

A lifelong farmer, he was owner and operator of Taylor's Nursery and Plant Farm. One who had a vast knowledge of flowers, plants and trees, he dubbed himself "The Dogwood King" in some of his past advertisements.

Marvin will be remembered for his tireless work ethic -- he never stopped, and for his determination to keep going -- he never gave up.

He was a member of Garner's Chapel Church.

Marvin is survived by his sister, Ruth Taylor of Mount Olive; his children, Cindy Taylor of Mount Olive and her husband, Randy Dalley, of Linden, Shelton Taylor and wife, Elizabeth, of Cameron, Stevie Taylor and his companion, Becky Davis, of Albertson and Sylvia Taylor of Albertson; a special friend of the family, Braxton Coon Wade of LaGrange; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae S. Taylor; his parents, Will and Carrie Alphin Taylor; and family member and longtime farm assistant, Herman Hines, who lived with the family.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Bob Fussell, and followed by burial in Will Taylor Family Cemetery on the family farm.

Visitation will be tonight, Tuesday, April 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and at his sister's residence other times.

A Tyndall service.
