Stanley Mitchell Hemby Sr., 93, Kinston, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Spring Arbor of Kinston.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, returning home to begin farming until 1953.
Stanley worked with Caswell Center for about 10 years before becoming manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
He began with East Carolina College as a cook before moving to Carolina Dairies and then retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Katie Harrison Hemby, and his wife, Helen Grant Hemby.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Garner Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, Neil, 709 Hugo Road.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Pinelawn Memorial Park with military honors.
Survivors include his daughter, Katie Wilson and husband, David, of Spartanburg, S.C.; his sons, Stanley Mitchell Hemby Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Nelson Kittrell Hemby of Goldsboro, Dennis Neil Hemby and wife, Pat, of Kinston and Melvin Herbert Hemby and wife, Karen, of New Bern; his sisters, Marilyn Jones of Baltimore, Md., and Ann Denton of Walstonburg; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
