NELLIE T. FRANCIS

Nellie Thompson Francis, 90-year-old resident of Mount Olive, passed away quietly at home in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 7, 2016.
A longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive, she had been in the Cox-Jurney Bible Class, the United Methodist Women's circle and, in many years past, she had had served as pianist for the children's choir in the church.
Too, she had served as a Girl Scout leader and a Boy Scout den mother, enjoyed the game of bridge, was a member of Mount Olive Home Demonstration Club, and, in 1994, she was named the Senior Citizen of the Year by the Mount Olive Jaycees.
A gifted artist, she produced many paintings, and for a long while, she served as an art instructor through Wayne Community College, teaching in the Goldsboro and Mount Olive senior citizens centers.
She and her late husband were members of Mount Olive Pickle Kickers.
Mrs. Francis is survived by her four children, Susie F. Doggett and husband, Larry Doggett, of Rock Hill, S.C., and Lib F. Swinson, Patricia F. Curtis and David H. Francis all of Mount Olive; six grandchildren, Molly Doggett Propst and husband, Mike Propst, Sara Doggett, Alex Doggett, Thomas Swinson, Laura Swinson Taylor and fiancé, Robbie Fonvielle and Lucas Curtis and wife, Tracy Curtis; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Francis; an infant great-great-grandson; and her parents, David O. and Donnie Best Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, it is the wishes of the family that memorial gifts be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 420, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365, or another charity of one's choosing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Francis will be held Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. from the sanctuary of her beloved First United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Marti Hatch and the Rev. Mark Kennedy, with a time of visitation and fellowship to follow in the church's fellowship hall. Interment will be Monday, April 11, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Friends are also being received at the residence.
