Ms. Sandra Kay Strickland, 57, lovingly known by her family and friends as “Doll Baby,” 1403 North Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., departed her earthly life Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Duke Hospice-Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, N.C.
Sandra was born in Wayne County Jan. 4, 1959. She was born to Mr. Peter Strickland Jr. and the late pastor Ernestine Mitchell-Strickland.
She received her high school diploma in 1977, and furthered her education by securing an associate degree in health and human services.
Ms. Strickland worked as a group home supervisor at O’Berry Neuro-Medical Center in Goldsboro, N.C.
“Doll Baby” was preceded in death by her grandmother, Cora McGowan-Mitchell; her mother; and her sister, Mrs. Cynthia Hines.
Sandra Strickland is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Tanyetta Sutton and husband, Kenneth, of Cary, N.C.; her father, Peter Strickland Jr. of Lumber Bridge, N.C.; her sisters, Sharlene McRae and husband, Daniel, of Hephzibah, Ga., Bernadine Pride of Goldsboro, N.C., and Sandra Cox of Goldsboro, N.C.; her brothers, James Ray Strickland of Lumber Bridge, N.C., and Antonio Strickland of Maxton, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, faithful family members, church members, other relatives and friends.
A public viewing will be held Thursday, March 10, 2016, from 2 to 6 p.m. in Apostle D.L. McIntyre Memorial Chapel at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m.
Friday, March 11, 2016, the family members and friends will assemble one hour prior at 9:50 a.m. at the home residence of Ms. Sandra Strickland, 1403 North Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., in preparation for the funeral procession.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 11, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Alpha and Omega Christian Center, 1210 Clingman St., Goldsboro, N.C. Apostle Frank M. Dawson will officiate.
Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery, 2925 U.S. 117 South, Dudley, N.C.
Flowers may be sent to McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., beginning Thursday, March 10, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
