NANCY JENKINS HOWELL

Aug. 18, 1944-Feb. 8, 2016

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." II Timothy 4:6-8

Nancy Ray Jenkins Howell, 71, went home to be with her Lord Monday evening after a brief illness.

Nancy was born in Arlington, Va., to the late Silas Ray Jenkins and Dorothy Hovermale Jenkins.

She was married to her husband of 41 years, the late Rev. Marvin Ray Howell, who preceded her in death Aug. 23, 2008.

In 1983, the Pentecostal Christian Assemblies was organized by the Rev. Howell, and he served as general superintendent for 25 years, along with his wife.

They formed the Gospel Sounds, along with the Rev. Billy Harris, in early 1972, and traveled across the state singing for the Lord until the Rev. Howell took his Pastorate in August 1974.

Though Nancy accomplished so much and blessed so many people in countless ways, she would probably say her greatest accomplishment surely would be her son, Joel Mark Howell. He would tell you that having such a godly, loving, kind, compassionate and strong, yet gentle mother, was one of the greatest blessings of his life. She made every holiday special and full of love, filled their home with the smells of delicious cooking and constantly showered her family with love.

A service celebrating Nancy's life will be held Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sherwood Howell presiding. Interment will be Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at 11 a.m. in Howell Family Cemetery near the family home.

The family will receive friends Friday immediately following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.

Nancy is survived by her son, Joel Mark Howell; sisters, Rebecca Jarrard and husband, Dan, Linda Johnson and husband, Craig, Betty Rogers and husband, Ben, and Cathy Blount and husband, Les; and sister-in-law, Alice Jenkins.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews she loved very dearly, including her niece and special friend, Lori Howell.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Jenkins.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
