Jo-Anne Rouse Herring, 71, resident of Pleasant Grove community, Mount Olive, passed from a body that had known much heartache, pain and suffering to heaven to receive her new heavenly body. Death came Tuesday morning, Feb. 9, while she was being cared for at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Shelton Justice and the Rev. Mark Hobbs officiating, followed by visitation. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved daughter and near her parents and brother in Maplewood Cemetery Friday, Feb. 12, following a 2 p.m. committal service.

Friends and family are also welcome to the Herring residence.

Jo-Anne was preceded in death by her daughter, Charity Anne Herring; her parents, Josiah and Lillian Outlaw Rouse; and her brother, Frederick A. "Bud" Rouse.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Thurman Herring; a sister, Linda R. Sutton of Albertson; two sisters-in-law, Christine A. Hill of Rocky Mount and Cathy P. Rouse of Albertson; three nephews, Ernie Sutton, Frederick "Fred" Rouse and wife, Jody, and Scott Rouse and wife, Michelle, all of Albertson; great-nieces and great-nephews, Buddy Rouse, Jennifer Sutton, Tanner Rouse, Austin Rouse, Bailey Rouse and Jase Rouse all of Albertson; a special member of the family, Danielle S. Rouse of Pink Hill; and several nieces and nephews and their families from Thurman's side of the family.

Jo-Anne had been a churchgoer since her early childhood, and had been a choir member and Sunday school teacher, had participated in the women's missions group, was active on many committees and served in other capacities through the years, and at the time of her passing, she was a member of Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

Too, Jo-Anne had been a longtime and faithful member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pleasant Grove Fire Department. She was a supporter of Thurman in his fire and rescue work.

Everyone who knew Jo-Anne knows how much she missed her darling Charity. While we are saddened by our loss, let's all smile as we know that Jo-Anne and Charity have been reunited.
