Jimmie Woodrow Wood, 78, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Born in Mount Vernon, Ill., he was the son of the late John Woodrow and Ruby Nance Wood, and was the husband of Helen Rae Bradwell Wood.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and a private graveside service with full military honors will be held at a later date. The Rev. Andy Stovall will officiate.

Jimmie was retired from the United States Air Force, was an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and motorcycle rider and was "Head of the Woodpile."

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepmother, Mable Fern King Wood of Mount Vernan, Ill., two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmie Val and Lisa Wood of Princeton and Barry Scot and Crystal Wood of Goldsboro; a daughter, Terri Lee Wood of LaGrange; two brothers, David Wood of Centralia, Ill., and William Wood of Bentonville, Ark.; two sisters, Carolyn Hamson of Belle Rive, Ill., and Mary Ann Roberts of Lexington, Ill.; four grandchildren, Christopher Scot Wood and a special friend, Rebecca Harlan, Haylee Val Wood, Hannah Hill Wood and special friend, Cody Britt, and Bradley and Angela Johnson; and several granddogs and grandcats with a special tom cat, "Thomas A."

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 75817, Topeka, Kan., 66675.
