HASELTINE MCDONALD

Haseltine "Hassie" Swift Stentz McDonald, 95, died Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Brookdale/Sterling House in Goldsboro.

Her life will be celebrated in a worship service to be held Monday, Dec. 28, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Steven Wicks. A time of visitation with the family will follow in the Baker Fellowship Hall at the church.

Having been born in Waynesville in the North Carolina mountains on Jan. 23, 1920, she was daughter of the late W.F. and Hazel Swift, and was a graduate of the University of Western Carolina. She had resided in Larned, Kansas for many years, where she served as an elder, deacon and president of the Women of the Larned Presbyterian Church. After leaving Kansas, she resided in Waynesville, N.C., before relocating to Mount Olive to be near a son, eventually becoming a resident of the Sterling House. She had been active in many civic organizations throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, first Captain David Sullins Stentz, veteran of World War II, and then O. R McDonald, as well as a son, Robin McDonald, DDS.

Surviving are two sons, David Sullins Stentz and his wife, Daisy "Dee" Stentz of Mount Olive, and Gregory "Greg" McDonald and his wife, Ruth Stentz, of Waynesville; four grandchildren, David "Tripp" Sullins Stentz III and his wife, Billi Stentz, William "Bryan" Stentz, Charlotte Killian Stentz, and Elizabeth "Buffy" Stentz Sargent and her husband, Lee Sargent; and eight great-grandchildren, Aaron Cassford, Jeremy Rouse, Alexis Stentz, Katlyn Stentz, Sarah "Sarah Beth" Sargent, David Sullins Stentz IV, Stedman Stentz and Lee "Pete" Stentz Jr.

The family extends a special note of thanks to her caregivers, Joanie Lassiter and the staffs of Brookdale Assisted Living Center and Community Home Care and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to P.E.O. International.
