RAY THOMAS PATTERSON

Ray Thomas Patterson, 87, Goldsboro, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Ray was born in Granville County Oct. 21, 1928, to the late Zebulon Vance and Minnie Puckett Patterson, the sixth child of seven children.

After graduating from Oxford High School, Ray began a career of 40 years with J.C. Penney Co., and advanced through the ranks to district manager. He worked in stores in Oxford, N.C., Camden, S.C., Norfolk, Va., Newport News, Va., Rocky Mount, N.C., and Goldsboro, N.C., before retiring in 1988.

Ray lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community. He served his community many ways, and was a member of Goldsboro Rotary Club and currently a member of Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Ray was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro, where he had served for many years as treasurer, and was a member of the Friendship Sunday school class.

Ray enjoyed woodworking and making beautiful furniture, especially Chippendale mirrors. He also had a great love for golf, and enjoyed being on the links sharing shots and laughter with his special friends.

A service celebrating Ray's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating.

Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Daniel Patterson; sons, Daniel Keith Patterson and wife, Debbie, of Utah and Scott Thomas Patterson and wife, Julie, of California; and grandchildren, Danny Patterson, Robby Patterson, Cole Patterson, Rachel Patterson, Matt Kraeling and Kellie Kraeling.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel Baker and Adele Eakes, and brothers, Marshal Patterson, Jim "Percy" Patterson, Carl Patterson and Ferebee Patterson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2015, from 4 to 6 p.m. at his home.
