Emma Lee Gurley Pittman, 81, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family.

Emma Lee was born in Wayne County, N.C., July 20, 1934, to the late Leonard Gurley and Maude Worrell Gurley. She was married to the late William "Bill" Pittman.

Emma Lee operated Pittman's Daycare for many years. She truly loved the children entrusted to her care, and in turn, they loved her.

Emma Lee was a member of Belfast Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was the kindest and most loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a great friend to everyone. She will be missed by all who were blessed enough to know her.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Eddie McKeel officiating.

Emma Lee is survived by her daughters, Janet Quinn of Goldsboro and Judy Spicer and husband, John, of Garner; sons, Jerry Pittman and wife, Kay, of Goldsboro and James Pittman and wife, Eva, of Goldsboro; sister, Marlene Taylor and husband, Bobby, of LaGrange; and her brothers, Buddy Gurley and wife, Katie, of Goldsboro and Anthony Gurley and wife, Rebecca, of Kernersville.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica Pittman, Jessica Wiggins, Melissa Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Leslie Stevens, Clayton Quinn, Kevin Carroll Jr., David Carroll, James Spicer, William Pittman, Patrice Pittman, Shawn Planty and James Pittman Jr., and her great-grandchildren, Zachary Wiggins, Andrew Wiggins, Conner Wiggins, Alexandria Stevens, William Stevens and Parker Carroll.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Carroll and Joyce Daw.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times, at the home.
