Hazel Wiggins Norman, 85, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at her home.

Hazel was born May 23, 1930, in Lenoir County to the late John James Wiggins and Mamie Jones Wiggins.

Her husband of almost 26 years, John Samuel Norman, preceded her in death May 21, 2015.

A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Hazel took great pride in serving as the family matriarch.

She loved cooking for her family. Hazel's chicken pastry and apple jacks were a family treasure.

With Hazel, there was no beating around the bush. She left no doubt where she stood, and took great pride in telling things in a very direct and easy to understand way.

Hazel dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord. Her legacy will live on through her family.

Hazel worked 23 years with Dobbs School, and later worked seven years as a substitute teacher.

She was a lifetime member of Garris Chapel United Methodist Church.

A service to celebrate and honor Hazel's life will be held Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Hazel is survived by three children, Michael Moye and wife, Debbie, Ronnie Moye and wife, Linda, and Beth Holland; one grandson, Shawn Moye; four granddaughters, Bethany Bridwell, Kristy Moye, Stephanie Sullivan and Kimberly Smith; two great-granddaughters, Ashlyn Pridgen and Brianna Moye; three great-grandsons, Christian Quick, Eli Smith and Jesse Smith; two great-great-grandchildren, Blayden Pridgen and Hazlee Pridgen; and a sister, Mildred Wiggins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Hill, and five siblings, Inez Radford, Herman Wiggins, Robert Wiggins, Thurston Wiggins and James T. "Scrubby" Wiggins.

Hazel's family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times, the family will be at the home.
