Amos A. Herring, 84, died Friday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Henry Albert and Queenie Thomas Herring.
Amos was a veteran of the United States Army, and had been self-employed as a general repairman and remodeler.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro, with the Rev. Von Vernon officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Amos is survived by a son, Ricky Amos Herring of Dudley; a sister, Margaret Roberson of Beaufort, N.C.; and a grandson, Ryne Herring of Charlotte, N.C.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-9956.
