Billie H. May Rouse of Goldsboro died Sunday of a stroke.

She was a former schoolteacher and principal and was the wife of retired editor Michael Rouse. They had lived in Goldsboro for 20 years.

Mrs. Rouse held a bachelor's degree from Carson-Newman University and graduate degrees from Western Carolina University and Fayetteville State University. She was a lifelong Sunday school teacher, most recently at Madison Avenue Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband; a stepson, David C. Rouse of Goldsboro and his wife, Jennifer; a stepdaughter, Jane R. Ellison and her husband, Lucien, of Wilmington; a sister, Ann Hardin, and her husband, Carroll, of Gastonia and two brothers, Hugh Holland and his wife, Carolyn, of Kings Mountain and Ronnie Holland of Robbinsville.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Madison Avenue Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Robert C. Fulkerson. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately afterward.

Mrs. Rouse died in Kings Mountain, where she had lived in a residential care home for several months. A visitation will be held for family and friends in the Gastonia area on Tuesday evening, and burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fayetteville at the Lafayette Memorial Park.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Huel E. May, a chaplain, and her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Ronald Holland of Robbinsville.
