HAROLD CAUDILL

Died July 22, 2015

Harold Caudill died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Wednesday, July 22, 2015, following a brief illness. He was 84 years old.

Throughout his life and illness, he exhibited patience, faith and humility. He served as a shining example that his loved ones will try their best to model as a tribute to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Arthur Caudill; by six brothers, Herbert Caudill, Ted Caudill, Todd Caudill, Pat Caudill, Bruce Caudill and Dale Caudill; and one sister, Deane "Poodle" Denny.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Margie Bradshaw Caudill, and four children, Gail Duncan (Jayson) of Pine Hall, N.C., Steve Caudill (Blonnie), Mike Caudill (Heather) and Karen Cathey (Grady) all of Charlotte.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Phillip Jordan (Donna), Kara Duncan, Jay Duncan (Emily), Will Cathey, Emily Cathey, Tori Caudill, Clay Caudill and Cole Caudill.

He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Jordan, Kaitlyn Jordan, MacKenzie Jordan, Cori McMillan, Tyler Jordan, Hannah Duncan and Elizabeth Duncan.

He is also survived by one brother, Roger Caudill (Nita Kay) of Raleigh, N.C.

Mr. Caudill was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Smethport, N.C.

Upon losing his parents at the age of 12, he moved to his uncle's orphanage in Goldsboro.

After his graduation from Goldsboro High School, he served in the Navy from 1948 to 1949 and many years in the Reserves.

He worked for Huttig Sash and Door until his retirement in 1989.

For many years, he ran his own business, Odds 'N Ends, where he custom built door frames and moldings for building contractors.

In 1951, he married the love of his life, Margie Bradshaw. Through 64 years of marriage they displayed wonderful love and devotion to each other, which was most clearly displayed by his "sweetheart" in the way she took care of him during his illness.

Throughout his life, he crafted beautiful woodwork, including a cross that hangs in the choir loft at his church, where he sang for more than 30 years.

He was blessed with a distinct tenor voice, and often sang at special events, including weddings and funerals.

He was an active member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church for more than 45 years, where he served as an elder and taught Sunday school.

Viewing will be Friday, July 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will follow from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church Christian Fellowship Center.

Burial will be Saturday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at noon at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Gary Bryant.
