ANNETTE EDGERTON BROTHERS

Annette Edgerton Brothers, 83, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015, in Morehead City, N.C.

Born in Baltimore, Md., she was the most precious only child of Annette Boney Edgerton and Arnold Borden Edgerton.

She was reared in Goldsboro, N.C., and graduated from Goldsboro City Schools before matriculating to Converse College, where she received her bachelor's degree.

In 1954, she married Henry Warren Brothers, and moved to his family's farm in Institute, N.C., where they celebrated 45 years of marriage until his death in 1999.

She taught for Lenoir County Public Schools for more than 20 years.

She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa.

She organized the Keep America Beautiful campaign for LaGrange Elementary School. For that project and her active role in the community, she received the Citizen of the Year Award.

Her other involvements in the community included being a member of the local Wachovia Bank board of directors, a founding member of LaGrange Garden Club, helped to establish LaGrange Public Library and an active member of both the LaGrange Arts Council and the Lenoir County Historical Association.

She was a lifelong supporter of Institute United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Henry Warren Brothers III, and his wife, Jane, and his children, Anna Brothers, Sarah Vaughn and Henry Warren Brothers IV.

Also survived by her daughter, Catherine Lassiter, and her husband, Andy, and their sons Andrew, Harrison and William.

She was proud to have five great-grandchildren, Lizzie and James Pike and Walton, Jakob and Dylan Vaughn.

The family would like to express its many thanks to her caregivers, Mildred Cannon, Lillie Hardy, Peggy Kotnik, Dr. Mary Katherine Lawrence, and the staff at Crystal Bluffs in Morehead City, N.C.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, June 9, from 5 to 7 at her home.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Teague officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Institute United Methodist Church, c/o Wiley Dawson, 3084 Byrd Road, LaGrange, N.C., 28551.
