Elaine Dodge Dewey Combs, resident of Kirkwood Retirement Community in Goldsboro, joined her heavenly father Thursday, May 21, 2015. She passed away peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Combs was born in 1916 to Edward and Lula Ezzell of Goldsboro.
Family, friends and neighbors always recognized Mrs. Combs by her beauty, charm and ever-present smile.
She was married to Bernest Graham Combs, who preceded her in death in 1989.
She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Brian Douglas Combs of Orangeburg, S.C.; a brother, Admiral, in infancy; and sisters, Mildred "Bill" Hawk of Maidens, Va., and Margie Thompson Scott of Goldsboro.
She is survived by sons, Carl (Bonnie) of Pensacola, Fla., and Doug (Kathy) of Orangeburg S.C.; daughters, Kay Riffle and Sandy Daniels (James) both of Goldsboro; her sister, Evelyn Frith of Glen Allen, Va.; in addition to grandchildren, Michael Combs and Sheila Oswald of Florida, Opie Combs of Alabama, Steve Smith and Stacy Savage of Goldsboro and Carol Tino of Smithfield; and many loving great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mrs. Combs was a faithful Member of Freedom Baptist Church for many years, and was a living testament to her faith and love of the Lord.
A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, May, 24, 2015, at 3 p.m. by the graveside at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Johnathan Smith officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family of Mrs. Combs is grateful for the attention and care shown by the staff and residents of Kirkwood Retirement Center and Kitty Askins, as well as close personal friends.
