Ella Earp Mitchell, 97, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Ella was born in Johnston County, N.C., Dec. 15, 1917, to the late Fred Earp and Della Woodard Earp. She was married to the late Raymond A. Mitchell.

Ella was retired from Wayne County Public Schools, having worked in the Rosewood High School cafeteria for 17 years.

She also farmed with Mr. Raymond for many years, and prided herself on being a caregiver to the sick.

She was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the Woman's Circle and the Aldersgate Sunday school class. She also served as a Sunday school teacher.

Ella will be remembered for her unconditional love as a wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all. She will be remembered for her compassionate spirit and soul, graciousness, hospitality and her gift of finding joy in doing random acts of kindness for others.

Family was paramount to Ella. She dearly loved them all, and also loved her church, church family and neighbors.

A service celebrating Ella's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Vann Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Ella is survived by her daughter, Carol M. Newton of Goldsboro; son, Billy A. Mitchell and wife, Carole, of Goldsboro; and sister, Creola Parrish of Goldsboro.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Donna Best, Mike Mitchell, Allen Mitchell and wife, Wanda, Michelle Abbott and husband, Jeff, Tina Guinn and husband, Darrell and David Newton and wife, Kim.

She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ella was preceded in death by her son, Bobby G. Mitchell; son-in-law, Travis E. Newton; grandson-in-law, Jerry K. Best; three sisters; and four brothers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 S. N.C. 581, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall and at other times, at the residence.
