Jackie Winfield Mays Sr., 83, Goldsboro, passed away Saturday at his residence.

He was born in Huntington, W. Va., the son of the late Alva James and Zena Bell Brown Mays Sr., and was the husband of the late Amzon Lou Meadows Mays.

He was a minister for 53 years and a member of Eden Christian Church in Snow Hill, as well as a member of the VFW.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dolan Baker officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service, and at other times, at the home of his daughter, Deborah Ogburn.

Mr. Mays is survived by a son, Jackie Winfield Mays Jr. and wife, Ann Terrell of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Micky Lynn Anderson and Deborah Mays Ogburn and husband, Kevin, all of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, John Roy Anderson III of Goldsboro, Anna Nicole Larranaga of Greenville, Kevin Shane Ogburn of Goldsboro, Benjamin Mayson Ogburn of Goldsboro, Zachary Thomas Mays of Las Vegas, Nev., and Garrett Scott Mays of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a great grandchild, Andrew Bryan Larranaga of Greenville.
