BESSIE STANSBURY BENNETT

Bessie Stansbury Bennett, 83, Goldsboro, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Countryside Village in Pikeville.

Mrs. Bennett was born Jan. 31, 1932, in Halifax County to the late James Lee and Etta Smith Stansbury.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

Mrs. Bennett worked for many years as the secretary of Second Baptist Church in Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.D. Bennett; her brothers, Willis, Horace and Alvin Stansbury; her sisters, Betty Lynch, Polly Wilson, Mary Bell and Bell Gray; and a number of brothers and sisters-in-law.

Mrs. Bennett is survived by her daughter, Angie Bennett Proctor and husband, Ted, of Wilmington; her son, David Bennett and wife, Kathy; and her granddaughter, Sarah Bennett all of Goldsboro.

Mrs. Bennett is also survived by her sister, Katherine Faison of Roanoke Rapids; her brother, Roy Stansbury of Roanoke Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery, 519 Meherrin Lane, Murfreesboro, N.C.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 20, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids.
