Jewel Orton Nelson, 85, Emerald Isle, died peacefully Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
The service will be Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Munden Funeral Home and Crematory in Morehead City.
Visitation will follow the service.
She moved to Emerald Isle from Goldsboro in 1985, where she was welcomed with open arms by many people in Emerald Isle. They, too, became her extended family. She was loved by all her neighbors, Beth, Phyllis, Ed, Kevi and many others.
She joined many groups in the area such Needle Pushers and her Sunday school class; she loved being a part of these groups.
Jewel was a member of the Swansboro United Methodist Church.
She loved to entertain her friends and family at her home in Emerald Isle.
Jewel was an avid card player. Jewel loved to tell everyone about her grandsons.
She is survived by her son, Capt. Steve Hardy and wife, Jennifer, of Naples, Fla., and her cherished grandsons, Gary Steven and Walker Louis Hardy, who are currently serving the United States Navy.
Jewel is also survived by her childhood friends, Barney Kornegay and Jenny Lou Dees.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, Garry and Beulah Orton, and her lifelong friend, Vickie Kornegary.
She outlived all of her siblings.
She was well loved and will be missed.
