JOYCE W. WHITFIELD

Joyce Marie Whitman Whitfield, 81, Clinton resident and native of Summerlin's Crossroads Community in Duplin County, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, Feb. 23, 2015, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, the Rev. Marvin Whitfield of Clinton; their daughter and son-in-law, Deborah W. Smith and Eddie of Selma; their son and daughter-in-law, Steve Whitfield and Kay of Mount Olive; a sister, Patricia W. Grady and husband, Dr. Perry L. Grady, of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Brandon Mark Whitfield, Adam Nicholas Partin and his wife, Sheli, Benjamin Goldyn Whitfield and his wife, Brooke, Kelly Partin Massengill and her husband, Ryan, and Stephen Matthew Whitfield and his wife, Faith; and six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Mark and Jennie Jones Whitman; an infant sister, Ruth Carol Whitman; and an infant great-grandson, Benjamin Luke Whitfield.

Services to celebrate her life will be held Friday afternoon, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. at Clinton Community Church, 1901 Sunset Ave. in Clinton. Her brother-in-law, Bishop Jimmy Whitfield, will officiate the service, along with the Rev. Dwight Dunning, the Rev. Joey Leggett and the Rev. Wiley T. Clark.

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the church fellowship hall until service time.

Committal and interment will immediately follow the service at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive, with her grandson, the Rev. Adam Partin, and a nephew, the Rev. Mark Whitfield, officiating at the burial service.

Memorials for Mrs. Joyce may be directed to the ministry she and her husband so tirelessly dedicated their lives to, The Marvin and Joyce Whitfield Life Center, c/o Royal Home Ministries, P.O. Box 39, Falcon, N.C., 28342.

The Whitfield family also expresses a heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of its parents, Judy Smith, Terry Shipp, Jennifer Mathis, Jo Ann Faison and Shanice Wilson.
