JOANN CHANCEY MELTON

JoAnn Chancey Melton, 79, Goldsboro, passed away Monday evening, Feb. 2, 2015, at Vidant Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Melton was born in Wharton County, Texas, March 5, 1935, to the late George and Ora Anna Jones Chancey.

She was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church, and retired from Richmond State School in Texas after 10 years and Wayne Memorial Hospital business office after 21 years of service.

Mrs. Melton was a past member of III Century Singers.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Cherry of Goldsboro; stepdaughter, Marsha Wooten and husband, Dudley, of Wharton, Texas; a stepgrandchild, Autumn Wooten; and a sister, Jeannette Banken and husband, Charles, of Henderson, Ky.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her husbands, Marshall Melton and Willard Cherry; a son, George W. Cherry; her daughter, Terry Lynne; a brother, George W. Chancey Jr.; and three sisters, Norma Elaine Tasker, Emma Jean Behrens and Frances Adrienne Pfaff.

The family will receive friends Friday evening, Feb. 6, 2015, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
