JOHN ANTHONY FERGUSON

Died Nov. 23, 2014

John Anthony Ferguson passed away Nov. 23 at 3:29 p.m. at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, N.C. He was surrounded by his family, friends and his church pastor.

John was born and raised in East Brooklyn, N.Y.

He served in the United States Air Force, and spent three years in Germany driving a fuel tanker.

After leaving the military, John was a bayman on the Great South Bay, while also working as a conductor for the Long Island Railroad.

After retiring from LIRR in 1992, he moved down to North Carolina, the place he loved.

John was a member of Oakland Community Church in Princeton, N.C.

In Goldsboro, John started his own trucking company, as well as a handgun and rifle business that he loved. His trucking company took him all over the United States, which gave him the opportunity to buy and sell hard-to-find handguns and rifles. John was a regular at gun shows, and continued to love this pastime until his final days.

John believed that you only needed the four f's in your life to be happy -- family, friends, food and fellowship. John would share with everyone that if you had all those things in your life, you were the richest man on the planet.

John is survived by his daughter, Lori Gerardi and husband, James, and their two children, James and Ava; his son, John Jr. and wife, Michele, and their two children, John and Ryan; his brother, George Ferguson and wife, Sharon; niece and goddaughter, Concetta; niece, Scarlett; his sister, Gail Tedeschi and husband, Arthur; his nieces, Jeanine and Nicole; his nephew and godson, Joseph; as well as his great-niece, Isabella Esposito.

Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. at Oakland Community Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oakland Community Church's Christmas Outreach to local families in need.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.
