Mr. Joshua Montrell Holmes, 23, 104 Holland Hill Drive, passed Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Joshua was born in Wayne County to Chris and Leasa Holmes.

He was a 2009 graduate of Rosewood High School and a 2012 graduate of Wayne Community College, earning his Associate of Applied Science degree in forest management technology.

He was employed with the North Carolina Forest Service in Pitt County, where he resided, and was a reservist in the United States Marine Corps. He truly loved his job in Winterville and serving his country as an M1A1 tank crewman.

He was currently enrolled at Pitt Community College pursuing a degree in HVAC/welding.

Joshua was an active member of Vision of Faith Free Will Baptist Church of Mount Olive, faithfully singing in the choir since he was 7 years old.

He had a passion for grilling, and was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his horse "Millie." He loved life and people. He was simply a fine young man.

Cherished memories will linger in the hearts of his parents, Chris and Leasa Holmes of the home; his siblings, twin sister, Jasmine Holmes of Greensboro, best friend, Chris Holmes Jr. (Brittney) of Kinston and Tiane Sims of Cary; grandparents, James and Lillian Ashford of Mount Olive, Jacob and Margaret Fenner of Virginia and George (Judy) Holmes of Georgia; two special nephews, Maxwell Lynn Holmes and Bryson Eli Holmes-Harvey; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends very dear to his heart, including his special friend of many years, Bianca Davis.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny Oliver Sr.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Vision of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 171 Vision of Faith Road, Mount Olive. The family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m., and at other times will be at 104 Holland Hill Drive, Goldsboro.

A celebration of Joshua's life will be held Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Bethel Church, 2308 N. William St., Goldsboro, with elder Dexter Waters as eulogist and elder James Powell as presider. He will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery.

Garris Funeral in Mount Olive has been entrusted to serve the family.
