BILLY M. SUTTON

Feb. 2, 1937-Sept. 13, 2014

Billy Morris Sutton, 77, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at his home.

Billy was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Greene County to the late Leslie Russell Sutton and Jennette Smith Sutton.

He attended Bethel United Methodist Church.

Billy was a hard-working man, which was the theme of his life; he lived to work.

He was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them. Billy was an unusually fine man. He was adored by his family, for whom he was a source of joy and strength, but also by countless others, from old friends to new acquaintances, all of whom were struck by his quiet generosity, his kind and unassuming intelligence and his innate courteousness.

Billy was a successful businessman, and lived a life of dedication to his family and friends and to his community.

He was recognized by the town of LaGrange several years ago for his accomplishments to the community.

Billy quietly enjoyed helping others and being a mentor to those closest to him. We were blessed by the love of a truly honorable, compassionate and humble man, who touched the lives of many people.

A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Mallie Hinnant officiating. Interment will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery.

A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Billy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Holland Sutton; four children, Roger Sutton and wife, Terri, Elaine Cooke and husband, Marshall, Woody Sutton and wife, Dee, and Randy Sutton; eight grandchildren, Bryan Sutton and wife, Stephanie, Patrick Thompson, Mitchell Sutton, Amanda Fahy and husband, David, Blake Sutton and wife, Katherine, Abbey Sutton, Madison Sutton and Faith Sutton; five great-grandchildren, Kent Greene, Olivia Sutton, Trevor Sutton, Mason Schmick and Austin Fahy; brother, Phil Sutton and wife, Dot; and a sister-in-law, Faye Sutton.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Paige Sutton, and a brother, Harold Sutton.

Billy's family will receive friends Tuesday following the service.
