JOSEPH PERRY GRADY

Joseph Perry Grady, 69, died Thursday afternoon at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born April 27, 1945, in Mount Olive, N.C., to Lucille Overman Grady and the late Albert Perry Grady, he graduated from Brogden High School, and enlisted in the United States Air Force, stationed in Waco, Texas.
Returning to Mount Olive in 1968, he became a man of many trades including refrigeration, electrician, plumbing, pipe fitter for Daniels Construction, goat farmer, beekeeper, hog farming and scrap metal junkie.
Uncle Joe, Grandpa Joe, Mr. Joe or Joe Perry was loved by many, always willing to share what he was reading lately, what new flower bulbs he had ordered, what auctions he had attended or what interesting new animal he had gotten.
At the time of his passing, along with his many cows and many kinds of chickens, he had emus, turkeys, ducks and peacocks.
One of his favorite hobbies was collecting Native American artifacts. He had a special talent for finding artifacts in local fields.
He is survived by his daughter, Alicia Grady Smith and husband, Sandy; his son, Alan Perry Grady and wife, Lynnette Grady; grandchildren Alan Jr. and Chris Grady, Alex and Rory Smith and Brooks Perry Grady; his mother, Lucille Overman Grady; his sister, Mary Lois Neel and husband, James; brothers Bobby Grady and wife, Debbie, and George Grady and wife, Ronna; sister-in law, Joyce Outlaw Grady; the mother of his children, Patricia Maddox Outlaw; many nieces and nephews; and his loyal companion, Cierra.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Grady.
