Agnes Gray Jordan Thompson, 81, longtime Mount Olive resident, passed from this life into the presence of the Lord Monday morning, July 28, while at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by Will Collins, assisted by the Rev. Doug Dexter, and with visitation afterward.

Committal and interment will be Thursday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at Thornton Family Cemetery in Sampson County.

A member of First Christian Church of Mount Olive, Mrs. Thompson was known for her eagerness in helping others, whether it was baking cakes and pies for the community or mending articles of clothing.

Her working career was as varied as were her interests, for she had worked with Rose's Five and Dime, Dr. W.H. Crumpler, Glam-o-Rama Cleaners, Carolina Cleaners, Belk-Tyler's and Peebles.

She was a member of the Mount Olive Rescue Squad Auxiliary and the Mount Olive Lion's Club Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of more than 61 years, Ray Thompson of the home; two daughters, Kathy Thompson Davis and husband, Gary, of Stantonsburg and Joy Thompson Vinson and husband, Doug, of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Jordan Davis Webb and husband, Robbie, of Saratoga, Sarah Davis Murphy and husband, Michael, of Ladysmith, Va., Liza Davis of Stantonsburg, Chelsey Grey Vinson Collins and husband, Will, of Princeton and Nathan Kyle Vinson of Goldsboro; a great-grandson, Blake Allen Webb, with another soon to arrive, who will be named Jack Collins; two brothers, Sherrell Jordan and wife, Peggy, of Goldsboro and Clyde Jordan and wife, Bonnie, of Garner; three sisters, Janet Sutton and husband, Billy, of Clinton, Peggy Lee of Grantham and Brenda Powers of Mount Olive; several nieces and nephews; her lifelong best friend and next-door neighbor, Anne C. Dewar of Mount Olive; and her beloved four-legged companion, Chase.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter C. and Verdie Keen Jordan, and two infant brothers.
