Mrs. Elizabeth Whaley Kornegay, 85, Pleasant Grove community, Albertson, passed away early Sunday morning, July 13, at her home.

Mrs. Kornegay, often called "Liz," was always busy. During her life, she worked at various jobs and at various places. Her last employment was with Duplin County Solid Waste Department as a recycling and waste site attendant, from which she just recently retired.

She had worshipped at Woodland Methodist Church and Calvary Baptist Church

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Fussell officiating.

Visitation will follow the service.

Burial will be Wednesday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.

She is survived by her husband, Craig "Mug" Kornegay; five children, Nancy K. Carawan and husband, Henry, of Albertson, Danny Kornegay of Kinston, Randy Kornegay and wife, Jean, of Mount Olive, Garry Kornegay and wife, Paulette, of Seven Springs and Jeaneen K. Ortiz of Albertson; a brother and sister-in-law, Coy and Viney Whaley of Kenansville; two other sisters-in-law, Ruby Whaley of Deep Run and Hazel W. Kornegay of Calypso; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Family members who have preceded her in death include a son, Terry Kornegay; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; her parents, Furney M. and Matilda Houston Whaley; three sisters, Ruby Jane Whaley, Roberta W. Cahoon and Retha W. Bowden; and four brothers, George, Hampton, Robert and Jerritt Whaley.
